District Track Meet Results

The Shelbyville High School welding team competed in the Shelby Regional Training Center Welding contest on April 16th. They competed with 20 plus students from area schools. All of the students did a good job, but when the smoke cleared Jake Wagstaff was in the top 5 with a Fourth place rating.  The welding team consists of: Colton Busch, Wesley Berry, Jake Wagstaff and Cole Cooper.


Shelbyville Students participating in the Gilmer Special Olympic meet were ( in the back row), Eithan Ponder, Chase Hutto, Jason Casey, and Caleb Alexander. Front row Adrianna Taylor, Ryleigh Lawson and Lindsey Vaughn.  Each student medaled in two events.

Mikel Carter was one of the first athletes to compete in the Texas Relays. It was held in Austin,  March 26-28. He competed in the "A" Division of the Pole Vault event. There were 15 athletes from all over the U.S.   Mikel  finished in 6th place with a vault of 15'7", which is a Personal Record.

 
 

The State Debate meet was held in Austin, TX on March 15-16 Shelbyville High School Senior Savannah Talbert and Freshman Ty Fox are State Medalists

Shelbyville Junior J.J. Boykins, was selected as an All-Region performer for Class 2A, Region III by the Texas  Association of Basketball Coaches. J.J., the unanimous 22-2A Most Valuable Player, avergaged 18.0 points per game and led the Dragons to their first district title in 26 years.  Jeron was awarded Newcomer of the Year his freshman year and 1st Team All District his sophomore year.  During the summer he plays for the Amateur (AAU) for the Shelby County Hoop Squad and Houston Goldwire Elite.  J.J. plans to pursue basketball in college.


The Shelbyville Dragon Powerlifters, Kal Metcalf and Octavian Burrell competed at the State Powerlifting Meet, held in Abilene, TX on March 27 -28, 2015. Despite an injury suffered at the regional meet, Kal Metcalf battled hard and finished 4th in State with a  total of 1545 pounds in the 242 weight class.  Coming in at 8th after the Regional meet, Octavian Burrell fought hard for a medal and came in 6th with a 1385 pound total in the 198 weight class.  Kal & Octavian, both Juniors did an excellent job representing Shelbyville High School and look forward to the 2016 season for another shot at the State Meet.
