On November 12, Shelbyville students Dawson Jackson, Hagan Crumpton, Ava Silva, and Aubree Camp competed at the U.I.L. region congressional debate contest. The University Scholastic League describes congressional debate as a contest that "models the legislative process of democracy, specifically, the United States Congress. Within this mock legislative assembly competition, contestants draft legislation (proposed laws and position statements) submitted to the tournament, and they research the docket of bills and resolutions dealing with real-world social and political policies prior to the contest to prepare their speeches." Aubree Camp placed 6th, Ava Silva placed 3rd, and Hagan Crumpton placed 2nd. Ava Silva and Hagan Crumpton will compete at the state meet in January.
